Digital Photo Resolution
The best thing you can do to improve your digital photos is to understand the concept of photo resolution. The right resolution, means less disappointment with your picture, no matter how captivating the subject. In other words, don't skimp on your digital camera if it means compromising on resolution. (with the exception being to consider file sizes - tDigital Photo Resolution is no need to have some of the enourmous digital camera resolutions offered by many of todays cameras)

Pixels

Digital images are composed of tiny squares of colour known as pixels. Pixels are short for picture element. If you magnify an image on-screen, you can make out the individual pixels. Zoom out on the image, and the pixels seem to blend together.

Every digital photograph is born with a set number of pixels, which you control by using the capture settings on your digital camera. Low-end digital cameras of the past typically created images that were 640 pixels wide and 480 pixels tall. More expensive models can produce images with many more pixels and also enable you to record images at a variety of capture settings, each of which results in a different pixel count.

Some people use the term pixel dimensions to refer to the number of pixels in an image; number of pixels wide by number of pixels high. Others use the term image size.
